The Town of Vail is exploring a car share program to support its strategic priorities. Car share vehicles can be reserved in advance and are available for anything from quick 15-minute trips to multiple days. Members can easily access a vehicle with a reservation and return it to the same spot when the trip is complete.
A car sharing program is recognized in mobility plans related to the rezoning of Timber Ridge and West Middle Creek. One purpose of a car share program is to alleviate parking pressure on these sites by creating an on-demand car rental in close proximity to dense, affordable housing.
A car sharing program can reduce congestion in Vail by reducing the need to bring a car to Vail. If an on-demand car rental is available, it makes it easier to leave the car behind when visiting Vail.
Electric car sharing programs have been shown to reduce vehicle miles travelled, thus reducing emissions equivalent to 8,000 gallons of gasoline annually, preventing 73 tons of GHG emissions, and replacing 9-13 personally owned vehicles (saving $6,500 in car expenses to members).
This site will provide a survey and other engagement opportunities for Town of Vail residents and visitors to provide input and feedback about a car share program in Vail.
