Planning and Design

SE Group and Studio Seed will lead the planning and design component, through analysis and engagement on issues and opportunities. Buildings will be analyzed to understand what characteristics are most cherished or reviled. Neighborhoods will be examined to understand density, layout, and land uses. And the area as a whole will be looked at to understand its connective tissue: West Vail’s streetscapes, civic spaces, and viewsheds. The planning team will conduct extensive outreach to understand the desired character of West Vail and what residents seek to preserve. From there, the planning team will generate ideas, designs, and possible code changes to align with the community’s vision. The design and land use planning efforts will include the following:

  • Review and analyze existing land use, zoning, and other Vail area planning efforts.
  • Public Kickoff Open House on what people value about the area and the vision for West Vail.
  • Hold strategic discussions on how to incorporate sustainability into the process and plan.
  • Design options and recommendations for zoning and land use changes.
  • Site plans for key housing and commercial spaces.
  • Renderings of new and revitalized civic spaces.
  • Land use and design workshop that examines specific issues and opportunities related to the current land use and zoning and reviews the analysis findings.
  • Development of action steps and cost estimates for all recommendations and ideas for planning and design elements of the plan.

The results of the initial analyses and assessments will be posted here. Later on, draft designs, and renderings, and other recommendations will be posted here for your feedback.
